Solar
on your commercial building makes sense!
What
better way to protect against huge utility
increases and at the same time show the world that
you believe in green technology than to instal your
own Apricus Solar system on your building. The heat
can be used for domestic hot water, space heating,
cooling or even process heat.
Do
you have the right location?
Although not every business is ideal for a solar
water heating system if your building has a
southern facing roof or wall with little
obstruction to the sun you might have a perfect
location for an Apricus Solar system. Next, look at
the slope of your roof. Ideally you want your
collector to be mounted at an angle equal to your
latitude (ie. Toronto = 43 degrees.) If you wish to
use your Apricus collectors to provide heating to
an in-floor radiant system, add 15 degrees to that
angle (Toronto = ~58 degrees). Flat roofs are ideal
as our High Angle mounts will give you the perfect
angle.
How
much hot water do you need?
This is an important step in sizing an appropriate
solar system for your commercial building. You
should always consider professional advice on
sizing all the components needed for a solar water
heating system but with a few small calculations
you will be able to get a good idea of what's
required in terms of collectors and storage tanks.
Here are a few tips when using Apricus for Domestic
Hot Water (DHW) heating.
First, determine how many people will be using the
building on a daily basis (or 5 days a week).
Generally people use only a few gallons of hot
water per day while at work. Next you should look
at other heating requirements such as space heating
or process heat.
